General Regulations for 2009 Discovering the Essence of Miaoli Photography Competition

I. Mission：

18 villages and towns in Miaoli County are rich in unique flavours, ranging from history, art, architecture and culture. The pleasure of mountain life and the vigor of a fishing town are both there for you to grasp. Welcome to Miauli to seize its beauty by your camera. Let us Eye Miaoli by experience it and feel it, establishing a sweet memory which belongs to us all in Miaoli! Here we offer our warmest welcome, inviting you to participate in the 2009 Discovering the Essence of Miaoli Photography Competition.

II. Host Bodies

1.Main Host Body: Miaoli County Government
2.Undertaking Body: International Cultures and Tourism Bureau, Miaoli County Government
3.Implementation Body: Photosharp Company
4.Co-host Body: Miaoli Institute of Photography

III. Qualification for Participation:

1.1.All photography amateurs and professionals are welcome to participate in the competition.
2.To ensure fairness, staff members who are involved in the competition work are prohibited from participating in the competition.

IV. The theme of this photography competition is: 2009 Discovering the Essence of Miaoli, with two sub-groups.

1.1.Natural scenery group: includes environmental scenery, natural landscape, pristine animals and plants, and special ecosystem within Miaoli County.
2.Cultural environment group: includes cultural spots, architectural or historical sites, traditional ceremonies, industrial cultures, folk-custom celebrations, etc.

V. Photography Work Specifications:

A.Traditional camera
B.Digital camerabr /> 1.Photography work submitted should reach 2400*3600 (approximately above 860 megapixel). The brand and the model number of the camera should be specified when filling out the application form.
2.The photography work should be saved on CD or DVD.
C.No brand fixing on the film printing paper.
D.All the submitted works should be developed to 8×12 inches color photographs, with the shortest side no longer than 6 inches, and no white edges.
E.For those who uses traditional camera to take their photographs, once passes the first round of competition, the original negative film will be required for submission.
F.At the back of every work submitted, the application form should be pasted with all the information filled out carefully.
G. Violation to above-mentioned regulations or specifications equal to a disclamation.

VI. Participation:

A. Request general regulations and application form of the competition
Please visit the competition website (http://mlc.photosharp.com.tw） or the website of the Miaoli International Cultures and Tourism Bureau（http://www.mlc.gov.tw/）to download, or post along with a self-addressed envelope to the acceptance address to request one. C. The application form should be filled out carefully. Every work submitted should come with an application form. To save resources and to echo with the energy-saving and carbon-reducing policy, please gather works to be submitted and post them by registered posts or send them by person.
D. At the right hand side of the envelope, please indicate: participate the 2009 Discovering the Essence of Miaoli Photography Competition. Make sure the envelope is packed well before post it. Any responsibilities regarding the damages or losses made through delivery will not be dealt with by the host bodies.

VII. Acceptance Date

The acceptance date starts from now on to 30th Apr, 2010 (recognized by the date stamp). Later submissions will not be accepted. Please reserve enough time for post, in order to avoid your loss of rights. For those who send their works by person, please make sure to submit their works to the acceptance address before the office hour of 30th Apr, 2010. Later submission will not be accepted.

VIII. Awards and prize money (two groups, with following-listed awards, the total sum of prize money reaches 1600 thousand)

One gold medal to each group: 200 thousand dollars
Two silver medals to each group: 100 thousand dollars
Three bronze medals each group: 50 thousand dollars
Ten superiors to each group: 10 thousand dollars
Thirty excellence works to each group: 5 thousand dollars
Gold, silver, bronze and superior winners will be awarded with glazed trophies. Others will be awarded with certificates of merit.
‧ (According to the taxation of income of the Republic of China, tax will be deducted from the prize money.)
